Therapy in Santa Monica, CA | Counselor Karla Hernández
If you are a mother in Santa Monica who is walking the Palisades, hitting the farmer's market on Saturdays, and still crying in the shower at the end of the day, I want you to know that those two things can both be true at the same time. I am Karla Hernandez, a perinatal and postpartum therapist, and I work with mothers navigating the anxiety, exhaustion, identity loss, and emotional complexity that come after birth, regardless of how beautiful the backdrop is.
Santa Monica is an affluent, wellness-forward city where taking care of yourself is practically a civic value. Yoga studios line Montana Avenue. Farmers markets run four days a week. The ocean is minutes away. And yet postpartum does not yield to any of it. The mothers I work with in Santa Monica are often surrounded by every resource and still feel desperately alone, because none of those resources are designed to hold the specific weight of what it means to become someone's mother and lose track of yourself in the process. Neighborhoods like Ocean Park, Sunset Park, and North of Montana are full of mothers walking strollers who look like they have it together. Most of them are also exhausted.
Mothers in Santa Monica come to me because they need a space that goes deeper than a wellness class. I offer virtual therapy for mothers throughout the Los Angeles area, which means you can access real, specialized perinatal support without ever leaving your home near the Westside.

Hi, I’m Karla Michele Hernandez, postpartum therapist in Santa Monica, CA
I created Alma de Madre after my own experience with postpartum cracked me wide open. I know what it’s like to feel invisible, exhausted, and unsure of who you even are anymore. That’s why I work with moms who are tired of faking it. My job isn’t to “fix” you it’s to walk alongside you while you reconnect with the parts of yourself that feel lost. You deserve care too.

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
